Track Talk Column for Sunday, August 7, 2022

East Bridgewater’s Ryan Kuhn and his race team are gearing up for the Oxford 250 set for Sunday, August 28 at Oxford Plains Speedway in western Maine.  The winner will get $25,000 plus lap money.

Late last month Ryan and his team pulled off a $10,000 win at Seekonk Speedway’s PASS Tour race.   Before he gets set for the upcoming Oxford 250 Kuhn has to compete in the upcoming PASS 150 lap race on Saturday night on August 13 also at Oxford, ME.
Previously Ryan has qualified for the last two Oxford 250’s.  In his first 250 Kuhn started on the pole and then he started 9th in the second one.
“This is going to be very tough race because the event will start 38 drivers.  You have stay out of trouble in order to be around for the finish,” he said. He went on, ” Plus you have to make at least one pit stop for tires and gas.  That’s another way to get into trouble and in order to have a chance at a win you have to do it without getting messed up.  My first effort will be to qualify early in one of the heats.”
“The best place to start is on the pole.  We’ll be bringing lots of equipment with us including rims for tires and air guns to change the tires quickly.”  His pit crew is comprised of his father Jim, Jr. and grandfather Jim, Sr. and family friends
Ryan Kuhn is 21-years old.  He started racing Karts when he was just eleven years old at the now defunct indoors F1 in Braintree and F1 Outdoors in E. Bridgewater.  From there he moved into the Champ Cars, Legend Cars and then a Late Model at Seekonk Speedway and later the ACT Tour.  He told me that he has about 80 career wins.  Most recently it’s one win in the Pro Stocks/Super Late Models, 12 in the Late Models and 17 in the Legends.  He races full time.
The Tour Type Modifieds continue on with its seven-month trek starting this past April.  Thompson Speedway in CT offers another NASCAR Whelen Tour race on Wednesday night 8/17 and an 80 lap Open goes on Friday 8/19 at Stafford Speedway in CT.   Then there’s a Modified Racing Series event at Oxford Plains in ME on Saturday, 8/27 followed by a Modified Open at Thompson Speedway in CT on Wednesday 9/14, a Modified Racing Series event at Star Speedway in NH on 9/18, then a Tri Track Open Modified Series race on Saturday, 9/24 at Stafford, a Modified Racing Series race on Saturday, 10/7 at Thompson, CT and a Mod Open on Sunday, 10/8 at Thompson, CT and the final Tri Track Open Modified Series on Sunday, 10/23 at Seekonk Speedway.
